Reconciliation Package Will Stall Renewable, Made-in-皇冠体育app官网平台 Energy, Shortchange Workers, Communities, Wildlife

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. House of Representatives’ budget reconciliation package would mark a harmful reversal of efforts to address the immense and interconnected crises facing wildlife and people. The bill, if passed by the U.S. Senate, will roll back crucial tax credits for innovative 皇冠体育app官网平台n-made energy while raising household electricity bills and removing protections for clean air and water. The bill also will short-circuit proper environmental review for government-approved projects.

“At a time when wildlife and people need Congress to meet the moment and address the immense and interconnected challenges they face, this legislation callously struts in the opposite direction. This bill would weaken protections for communities’ clean air and water and zero-out crucial investments in 皇冠体育app官网平台n-made renewable energy and manufacturing, and all the U.S. jobs those projects support,” said Abby Tinsley, vice president for conservation policy at the National Wildlife Federation. “If passed, 皇冠体育app官网平台’s lands, water, wildlife, air, and families will be worse off. The Senate should reject this bill and go back to the drawing board.”

Provisions in the package would:

  • Undermine bedrock protections by allowing corporations to buy their way out of thorough and accurate environmental reviews.

  • Roll back fuel efficiency standards for cars and trucks and erase fees on methane wasted in the atmosphere, putting public health and wildlife at risk, while further destabilizing our climate.

  • Expand oil, gas, and coal mining while eliminating common-sense reforms that are good for taxpayers and the environment.
